An infinite-runner game with a cute gimmick

E.V.A.L is an infinite runner game, which means the aim of the game is to keep going until you quit or until you fail. Though it is just a game, the gimmick is that you are being tested to see how well you will survive in the future.

Not just a button tapping game

E.V.A.L uses the gimmick that it is testing you the player. It says that you are being evaluated because the only way you will survive a future where technology rules is by being able to input information into computers. Your runner runs in the same position on the screen. The scenery moves from right to left to make it appear as if your character is running from left to right. At the top of the screen are three rectangles with colour in them. Your character will encounter different obstacles while running. You have to look at the object and you have to draw its shape with your finger. However, you must look at the colour of the obstacle, and you must draw its shape under the correct colour. For example, if your runner is about to run through a blue circle, then you need to draw a circle shape under the blue rectangle on the right.

Odd and under-loved

E.V.A.L is under-loved because few people will purposefully subject themselves to a game where it is impossible to win or to rank up in any way. The only competitive function is where you time yourself and then try to beat your best time. E.V.A.L is an odd game both with its premise, and with the way it has been artistically generated to almost look like a teenager’s attempt at watercolour. E.V.A.L is a novel time-waster that is the world’s first Windows Ink enabled game.

PROS

  • There are few other infinite-runner games like this one
  • Like an infinite-runner version of the 1978 Simon game

CONS

  • E.V.A.L doesn't reward players for playing
  • You are forced to quit or fail
